In German we have the word Feierabend, which means something like “celebrating evening.” When we are done with work for the day we go home and slowly come down from the activity and relax into recovery.
Whoever gets up in the morning and has an active day, can enjoy a slow recovery in the evening. We kind of feel it’s our right. If we don’t enjoy Feierabend, our nervous system can’t really calm down and tensions and stress symptoms might stay in our body and mind. The same is true for times of continued exertion and difficult phases in life. After a phase of difficulty, we need a phase of deeper rest.
My first yoga teacher always pointed out that after holding a challenging pose for some time, one should recover for the same amount of time. Doing this we create positive tendencies toward restoring ourselves, and then effortlessly we find that we’d we’d like to rise up to challenging times again.
So, I encourage you to find your own way to celebrate what you’ve done here and to find a nice activity now through which to recover.
